I’m Nancy L. Harty, the artist behind NL Harty Art. I was born and raised in South Jersey. And I currently live there with my husband, two sons, sassy cat, and two rescue dogs.
In my daily life, my thirst for learning keeps me curious, my love of the outdoors keeps me at peace, and my passion for art keeps me going. I’ve explored many creative outlets, from cake decoration to murals, and photography to graphic design. But creating mixed media art fills me up.
As an artist, I like to shake things up with my unconventional and intuitive approach. My work is like a puzzle that invites interpretation and play—after all, where's the excitement without it? But most of all, I want my art to be felt on a deeper level.
Back in high school, I was introduced to the wild and rebellious work of Jackson Pollock. His fearless style left a lasting impression on me and paved the way for my own artistic outlook. My mentor's self-exploratory teaching method encouraged me to explore unusual mediums and a creative process that now defines my unique style.
When it comes to creating mixed-media artwork, I throw the rule book out the window and let my creative instincts take over. I find joy in experimenting with unusual and innovative mediums and tools - no mark-making object is safe from me! This form of art allows me the freedom to express myself without limits or judgment, and I love exploring different mediums and subjects.
I'm all about creating mixed-media art that's fun, imaginative, and diverse. My inspiration comes from everything ranging from abstracts to animals, and plant life to nostalgia. Mother nature's beautiful colors and textures play a huge role in shaping my designs. Plus, my memories of Caribbean travel, relaxing landscapes, and funny life experiences also guide and influence my work.
With every mark, pattern, shape, and hue, I aim to convey the energy of these experiences and ignite similar feelings and memories in others. For me, creating art is a transformative process where my emotions, feelings, and memories are turned into something visibly joyful and exuberant.
In a world filled with pain and worry, I feel like wonder and whimsy are in short supply. That's why I'm passionate about sharing my art to encourage others to find the fun, get lost in the abstract, or embrace the absurd. Whether someone wants to express their individuality or find a good laugh on a tough day, my artwork is here for them.
-Let the good energy in!
